Overall I think that was the best wle ever, I had a great experiance there. I really enjoyed meeting new people and I think that my mentor is one of the nicest persons I have ener met. I will miss working for her she only sees the good in people and loves to have conversations with everyone about everything. This wle experiance will have an affect on my future decisions because my mentor encouraged me to go to college and get a degree on something that I enjoy doing or have a purpose for it because you will enjoy your job. One of the goals this wle helped me to make for myself is to be less isolated and interact with people.

Blog 9 Life at my WLE 12/06/2011

Today I had to file paper work and translate for the doctor. I have improved as an intern because the doctor  has trusted me to preform the visual field test on a patient without her supervision. She also just tells me what I have to do or what she expects me to do. Now she  doesn't have to explain to me how to do something because now I have knowlege on what it is I am doing. As an intern I learned that having people skills is very importat to a person's job inorder to communicate with respect with others. The doctor and the other people that work there make it fun being there.

In order to find my WLE and get hired, I had to be friendly and explain what WLE was about and whay was it important. The most effective way of looking for a job and getting hired is by being friendly, having professional language. As a result of my WLE, I think being a professional or a responsible adult in the work world means i have to be nice to people.

blog 7: what I learned 11/22/2011

Something I learned about myself is that i really would like to get a career in the medical field.
I haven't really faced a challenge in my wle because my mentor always tries to explain everything. A life lesson I learned from this experience is that your eyes are an important part of your body. My creativity was put into use during this wle because I have to create a brochure about contacts. I believe now that I didn't before about this profession that it actually is necessary and important.

The leadership skill I used was to complete projects effectively because I had to complete a section of my project every time I went to my wle, I had to divide up the work with the days I had their in order to finish my project.  This leadership skill is working because I actually am completing part of my project on my wle days and I am meeting my deadlines.

Today I gathered information on what I have to put on the brochure I will be creating. Me and my mentor talked about what kind of images I will be using on my project. She wants me to use strong images and explain in detail what they are and represent. The information I am gathering comes from either the doctor's knowlege or optometrist magazines.

For my WLE project I will be creating a brochure about contacts and I will be creating a poster board for the work place with information about the miss use of contacts. I am exited about this project because I get to wear different types of contacts in order to know how they work. I don't really need help from my AS I just need a computer to do my brochure.

Blog# 3: My Role 10/25/2011

My main responsibility is to organize and file. I also had to learn about the human eye and how it works as well as some severe diseases that have a great impact on the eyes. When a patient comes in and sees the doctor i have to perform a visual field test. It basically just is a test that checks your peripheral vision, I have to sit the patient down and explain to them how the test works and what it helps with, then I let them know how the machine works, and their test can be started. The doctor also told me to be extra patient with elders because they might not like the test and get extra frustrated. Starting today my task is together information for my project.

Blog#2: My Mentor 10/18/2011

My mentor is Dr. Malak-Majdalani and she is an optometrist. A typical day at work for her is to see people with scheduled appointments unless they either cancel or don't show up. Sometimes their are walk-ins too who instead of going to the emergency room go to her first which then are sent to the ER by the doctor. She became interested in working in this field because she wanted to study in the medical field and was not sure what to study until a personal issue occurred and she decided to study general optometry.

Blog# 1: My work place 10/11/2011

My work place is a small business located in Hayward. It is inside Southland Mall. I work for an optometrist she
works with two other people and I am her first intern. this place serves anyone who wants to get an eye exam, get glasses or contacts and to be referred to a specialist if needed. A strength of my work place is that the doctor studies general optometry and she sees from kids, adult and seniors. A weakness of my work place is that it is hidden inside sears so not a lot of people are aware of
it. My mentor has a four year degree from Berkeley for studying molecular biology and then earning a degree for optometry.
